Minnesota’s Conservation Amendment Becoming Contentious

Doug Smith: War of words over constitutional amendment for conservation | StarTribune.com

Wonderful!   Ever since this state constitutional measure passed back in 2008 I've been highly skeptical of the great conservation benefits the special interest groups promised us from this expansive sales tax measure.   Now, less than six months into the new tax law, we learn how several lawmakers are simply "licking their proverbial chops" in an attempt to use the monies for creative purposes other than those for which many intended (toward fish and wildlife projects).   This news surprises us how?   After all, we should have learned long ago not to trust politicians whenever money is involved.

More Bad Press For Trappers

Bill Marchel: Tragedy a cautionary tale for hunting dog owners | StarTribune.com

About three weeks ago I wrote a rebuttal piece on a blog post written negatively about trapping. In that instance, the writer interjected misleading information serving only to further reflect negatively on the sport of trapping. In this article, Marchel reports on an equally negative situation involving trapping, but the story is written with greater fairness and a purpose to inform bird hunters of the potential dangers/actions necessary to take.

While I cringe each time I read something negative about trapping, as a trapper I accept it when the author's intent is sincere and not spiteful.

Hey folks, I'm trying something new here at Sportsman's Blog. It's called micro-blogging and basically what it means is occasionally you will see shorter, informative blog posts often containing no more than just a few sentences. Expect more frequent outdoors blogging during the coming year as I further explore this popular trend in new media communication. Expect my regular blogging efforts to continue along with these new blogging efforts.
